SINGAPORE – Starting from 2019, children with moderate to severe special needs will need to attend public funded schools, just like all other children in Singapore.

The move to extend the Compulsory Education Act to this group of children will take effect from the Primary 1 cohort. With the change, they will be required to attend any of the 20 government-funded special education (Sped) schools or mainstream schools, unless they apply for exemption with MOE.
